Biopolymer WG-S from Oceanivewchem is recommended for use as a viscosity modifier in oilfield operations, such as hydraulic fracturing, wellbore cleanup, drilling, workover and completion fluids, as well as construction and concrete applications. Biopolymer WG-S provides high performance reliability.
In oilfield applications, WG-S demonstrates unique rheological characteristics to provide optimum wellbore cleanup and suspension. It delivers high viscosity at low concentrations. The unique high viscosity of WG at low shear rate enhances the suspension properties of low-concentration colloid and bentonite-free fluid formulations. Meanwhile its highly pseudoplastic properties results in oil drilling fluids that have good flowability at high shear rate which can help in significantly reducing transportation costs.
In cement applications, WG-S is excellent in facilitating the flow of sand and aggregator in self-levelling and seepage systems. It reduces the precipitation and separation of sand and ensures consistent strength throughout the cement system.
Our WG-S is stable under a wide range of temperatures and pH levels. It is compatible with most oil field additives as well as many make-up fluids such as fresh, sea and brackish waters, making it the hydrocolloid of choice.
Typical use levels of WG-S range from 0.05% to 1.0%.

Description | Biopolymer WG-S is a fine mesh, rapid hydrating, water soluble biopolymer produced by fermentation for use in gypsum and hydraulic cementitious systems, as a Viscosity Modifying Agent (VMA). ØImparts high solution viscosity at low gum concentrations ØHas pseudoplastic rheology profile (e.g., is shear thinning) providing: llow viscosity at high shear rates ( Easy to pump & place ) lhigh viscosity at low shear rates ( Provides superb particle suspension) ØExhibits little solution viscosity change over a wide temperature range. |
Features | ØProvides excellent suspension and emulsion stability at lower viscosities. ØImproved pumping, placement and workability. ØControls Bleed. ØIs stable under high-shear. ØExhibits low viscosity while processing (e.g., pumping and spraying). ØProvides excellent water retention. ØImproves shelf life stability of high pH products. |
Benefits | ØHomogeneous placement and curing of aggregate, sand, pigment and past. lImproved surface properties and durability lUniform strength lImproves pigment efficiency and provides consistent color quality ØBleed control improves quality, and may reduce labor finishing costs. ØReduces impact of raw material variability on costs and quality. lReduces impact of moisture in sand and aggregate lReduces impact of gap graded sand and aggregate ØStabilizes highly fluid mix designs for Gypsum Systems, Self Compacting Concrete and Underwater Concrete Systems. |
Typical Application | ØGypsum floor screeds ØSelf Compacting Concrete (SCC) ØInjection & post tension grouts ØPigmented concrete & gypsum systems ØSelf Leveling Underlayments (SLU) ØUnderwater concrete (anti-washout) ØPervious concrete |
Typical Use Level | Welan gum WG-S is typically used at a level of 0.01- 0.15 wt% basis weight of water. |
Dissolution
The dissolution of the product depends on the medium and the process: it is improved by heat-treatment (time, temperature), shear-stress (propeller, exchanger, homogenizer). A complete dissolution can be obtained in cold conditions.
Packaging & Storage
