Mica is a naturally occurring loss circulation material that is supplied in fine, medium, and coarse grades; it can be utilized in water base or oil base drilling fluids.
MICA is an all-purpose lost circulation material designed to reduce not only severe lost circulation but also minor seepage losses. It is applicable in both water-based and oil-based drilling fluids. MICA is available in Fine, Medium and Coarse grades.
QUALITY SPECIFICATION
Item | Index |
SiO2 content | 43-45% |
Specific gravity | 2.70-3.20 |
pH value | 7.5-8.5 |
APPLICATION
MICA FINE may be added directly to the drilling fluid as a precautionary measure in stopping lost circulation since the small particles pass through the shaker screen and are thus retained in the system.
MICA MEDIUM AND COARSE is used to control mild circulation losses and is in combination with other bridging agents, usually applied in form of a lost circulation plug.
RECOMMENDED TREATMENT
MICA FINE is added to the drilling fluid in amounts of (3.5 - 7.0 lbs. /bbl.) prior to entering a thief zone.
MICA MEDIUM AND COURSE is usually in combination with fibrous materials, used to make up a Lost Circulation slug. The amounts to be added are only limited by the desired viscosity of the slug.
PACKAGING
MICA (F-M-C) is available in 25 kg multi-ply paper sacks, palletized as 40 sacks per pallet.
